What’s New?
July 22 to July 28
Hello reader. I hope you’re having a great July. It feels like July just started, and it’s already almost over.
Throughout this year I’ve been trying to find ways to improve RABBLE REVIEW. Our old website was my white whale for the longest time. Finally I sat down to do some research. Okay, to be fair the totality of that research was typing, “easy to use web builders” into a search engine. And after a few minutes scrolling through a Reddit thread I found my answer. And a month later we had a new website. Cool!
My current goal was a little different. This time I was trying to find ways to get an issue of RABBLE REVIEW into someones hands faster than ever. Up until last week, the fastest way to read RABBLE REVIEW was to be me, and have the PDF’s on your computer. The second fastest way was the same way everyone else got the issue. And that was by going to our website, clicking the link to our Gumroad store, entering the price you wanted, going to your email, clicking the download button, and downloading the issue onto your phone. Then! Then, you’d have to find the download in your phone (or computers) files, and open it in an ebook reader. Then you’re ready to enjoy the issue. And I hate that. It was cumbersome and for our less tech savvy contributors and readers, it was an unnecessary barrier to the work we really, really, want you to read.
So, I went digging. I visited other literary journals to see how they were doing it. Some of them just had direct downloads on their pages, which is fine, albeit a bit inelegant. Our litmag is meant to be read left to right like…a magazine. So having it open as a PDF where you scroll up and down does not seem ideal. Please do not read an issue of RABBLE REVIEW in Adobe Acrobat. Some publications had their accepted works on a webpage, which is not how we want to do it, so that was out. And a few used e-zine services. And one of them (also the cheapest, yay) was perfect for our needs. Shoutout to whichever publication was using, HeyZine, I forgot to make a note of who. But it really is perfect for our needs. So perfect that I’m mad we hadn’t heard of it sooner. Why didn’t you tell me, reader?! I blame you for this!
Anyway, now we can start linking to an actual issue of RABBLE REVIEW when we are promoting a new issue. And the Gumroad store will still be there for folks who want to download, but now there’s an easy and fast way to start reading our litmag. It brought me an immense amount of pleasure to have an issue of RABBLE REVIEW open in all its glory with one click. And it looks good on every device. Yay!
I’m excited for Issue 9 to debut this way. In the meantime you can read Our 8th, 7th, 6th, and 5th issue of RABBLE REVIEW all from your browser. I’ll link issue No.8 below, but you can read the rest by visiting our website. Happy reading!
Work of the Week:
“Flip this Country!,” by Mark A. Fisher
This weeks, Work of the Week, is from RABBLE REVIEW No.2. You can find it on Page 43 of that issue.
I still enjoy the poem, but we published this in our 2nd issue when the state of American politics wasn’t as toxic. It feels a bit aspirational now. Maybe less fresh coat of paint, and more, blow torch.
I wonder if Mark Fisher would agree?
Still, it’s a great poem, and we were delighted to publish it. Check it out here, on our site, or in RR No.2

That’s all for this week, readers. Some weeks are going to be lighter than others, what can I say? Work continues on our ninth issue. It is shaping up to be a great issue, and we can’t wait to share it with all of you. We’re hoping to do a celebratory livestream when the issue is finished, so be on the lookout for that. Thanks for reading, and we will see you next week.
Have a good week, stay safe out there,
