What’s New?
March 24
Hello reader, and good evening, if you’re reading this at nighttime. I know it has been awhile, but I genuinely didn’t know how to update the newsletter these past few weeks. Our team has read over 400 individual works so far and we’re still not finished. I know what you’re thinking, “that’s no excuse, I love the RABBLE REVIEW Newsletter,” and you know what, that’s fair reader I apologize.
Luckily, I do have some updates for you this week. Our wonderful EIC, Angel Neri, made a thing! We are constantly brainstorming new ways to put RABBLE REVIEW in front of new readers and expand our audience. And we’re a bunch of filthy commies so we definitely don’t want to keep anyone from experiencing our magazine. What’s more accessible than words on printed paper? Well…screen readers, and, lots of stuff actually, forget it, I thought I could develop a different point, but paper isn’t the actual end all be all, it’s not even in braille…ugh! Anyways, we have a template for a mini zine that can be printed on a single sheet of paper, and assembled by simply folding. You might need scissors for the final step, if you are like me and can’t do the thing where you split paper on along the folded part without ripping diagonally. But it’s super easy and kind of fun. The editorial team have already printed a bunch to be dispersed across our immediate surroundings. And I had the great idea to outsource the labor to all of you. So if you want to print your own mini zine to share, or just keep for yourself, you can! And yes, we will be updating periodically, swapping out the poems in the zine with other poems. Unfortunately it’s like 8 pages, so we can’t get into much prose, and it’s black and white, so art wouldn’t really work. It’s meant to be a sampler anyways, so hopefully someone who stumbles on it can just follow the QR code to the site where they can read any of our nine issues for free. Hooray!
In other news as I mentioned earlier, the work on Issue 10 is slow, but it is happening. At our current pace we hope to complete our review of the submissions in April. And we should (hopefully) finalize our selections by the end of April. We appreciate your patience, especially if you submitted work. We have reviewed so much fantastic work so far, whittling it down into the final issue is going to be a herculean task. Without giving too much away, we’re sitting on at least a dozen prose pieces that are essential! But we can’t take them all. Or can we? We can’t. But what if? We can’t. But…no! Ugh! It’s going to be tough. I can say that from our favorite works so far, a clear theme has already begun to present itself. It’s so funny to think that work submitted in October and November resonates with the current present moment so effectively. We’re so lucky to have fantastic writers who really know how to tap into the cultural and political moment to produce works that are honestly, timeless.
That is all to say that I’m so excited to watch how Issue No.10 shapes together. It is our great pleasure to share these amazing works with all of you. And we will! Hopefully sooner rather than later. Stay tuned.
